Civil 3D - Stormwater Design & Analysis

I was recently looking around and clicking on different things on Autodesk's website when I came upon a neat extension for Civil 3D users.  If you are a Civil 3D 2008 subscription customer you are able to download a Storm Water extension for free.  Its called Hydraflow Storm Sewer Extension.  You are able to use your pipe networks from Civil 3D to form a storm and sewer design.  There is a long list of features it is able to do.  Please check out the Autodesk website and see the features and how to download it.

CPM - Buzzsaw New Release October 2007

Autodesk recently made a new release of the Buzzsaw client available for download.  This update to version 2007.4SP specifically addresses an issue which has caused me some headache for some time now.  Before the update when a user was added to the site and added to a project, by default they were given the "view" permission for the area.  In many cases these new users should only have the "list" permission until they get further down within the project directory.  In some cases an admin is creating users for a new project startup or new bid posting and they don't want the users to have access to the area just yet.  This new update addresses that by allowing the admin to control the access permissions during the user creation and not afterwards.  For the full document see Autodesk Buzzsaw What's New page.

You may download the new version either the “Site Information” page from within the Buzzsaw site or at www.getbuzzsaw.com .

Even though this version is meant more for administrators, if you have not updated your Buzzsaw client in the last several months you should update as well.  Also get the latest Design Review software which has added many features over the last year.  Also available from the "Site Information" page or directly from Autodesk here.

Virtual 'Vegas - A digital Southern Nevada ecosystem

Think of the possibilities…

All Southern Nevada agencies and commercial enterprises connected via a secure, electronic fabric.

Autodesk’s U-Vis 360 framework provides a sophisticated yet straightforward means of leveraging multiple data sources – in particular Smart Data sources – selected through task-oriented filtering of the information - and delivering it to your choice of interface to present information in intelligent and useful ways.

Look at graphical data sets – building designs, environmental maps, utility design information, public works map books, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing data, facility and GIS data bases, and whatever else is needed – filter and integrate them – and then present it in a single environment so they can see relationships, and use this knowledge to improve their design, planning, management, and training needs. The business value is to see the spatial relationships in a single comprehensive view and find related attribute data quickly.

CPM - ICC Convention 2007 Reno, Nevada

Recently, I had the opportunity to attend the 2007 ICC Convention held in Reno, NV as an exhibitor with Autodesk.  I met many interesting people and hope I opened their minds to at least the possibilities in managing their work.  Directly, we were demonstrating the use of Buzzsaw and Design Review to support the processes around submitting and reviewing plans for building and zoning permits.

One of the BUZZ words for the convention seemed to be "Smart Codes".  From what I could gather it seems this refers to the ability of a system to automatically analyze a design model, like those produced with Revit and ADT, for simple code compliances like distances between outlets or checking air volume calculations.  With the current aquisition of NavisWorks, Autodesk is looking to make this possible.  This same technology could also be helpful for design consultants to evaluate their designs in conjunction with other design consultants on a project for coordination issues.
